François Jos.Clément HALKETT (1856-1921) Portrait of a man, oil on canvas, signed lower right, +-58 x 46 cm. Note: François Halkett studied at the École de Dessin de Molenbeek-Saint-Jean, then at the Académie Royale des Beaux-Arts de Bruxelles (from October 1877 to May 1880) under Jean-François Portaels, and also Joseph Stallaert (drawing) and Joseph van Severdonck (drawing after the antique). He was awarded 3rd prize for expression in drawing in November 18803. His fellow students included the artists Willy Finch, Fernand Khnopff, Darío de Regoyos and James Ensor. He also trained in Paris, where he attended the École des Beaux-Arts with Jules Lefebvre in 1883, and in Brussels under the mentorship of Hippolyte Boulenger.
