Dronde fils aîné' in Marseille on verso 22.0 x 19.0 cm This painting is probably a representation of the artist by himself. Granet was nicknamed "the monk" by his friends. A drawing depicting a very similar landscape is kept in the Louvre's Department of Graphic Arts, La montagne Sainte Victoire près d'Aix en Provence (inv. 26854) - Two oils on paper also depicting the same site are kept in the Musée Granet in Aix: La montagne Saint-Victoire par temps gris and La montagne Sainte Victoire par temps gris.
