FRANK MAGDA* (Cluj-Napoca 1914 - 2010 Buenos Aires) Rabbi watercolour/paper 23,6 x 17,7 cm signed Frank Magda ESTIMATE °€ 250 - € 400 STARTING PRICE € 250 The Hungarian-Argentinian sculptor Magda Frank (Fischer) was born in Klausenburg (Hungarian: Kolozsvár), then in Hungary. After the First World War, the town became part of Romania, under the name Cluj-Napoca. For fear of persecution, the Jewish woman fled to Switzerland. She later moved to Paris and studied at the Académie Julian. In 1950, she arrived in Buenos Aires to visit her brother, her only surviving family member. There, she was appointed professor at the Artes Visuales de Buenos Aires and exhibited her work at the Galería Pizarro. She was awarded the Benito Quinquela Martín Prize by the Eduardo Sívori Museum and received other awards from the Senado de la Nación Argentina. Her works are on display at the Musée National d'Art Moderne in Paris, the Petit Palais in Paris, and the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Buenos Aires. It wasn't until 1995 that she completed her move from Paris to Argentina, where she established the Magda Frank House Museum in Saavedra.
