Frans Francken the Younger. (1581 Antwerp - 1642 ibid.) attr; Adoration of the Magi Small-format devotional painting focussing on the Holy Family and the Magi. Frans Francken and his workshop created a large number of stylistically comparable depictions of the Adoration of the Magi, which suggests an attribution to them. Oil/copper panel. Provenance: From the collection of Maria Antonia Pessina de Branconi (1746 - 1793), mistress of Duke Karl Wilhelm Ferdinand von Braunschweig (1735 - 1806), from 1781 in Langenstein Castle near Halberstadt; then in the collection of August Wilhelm Rimpau (1814 - 1892), Langenstein Castle near Halberstadt, inventoried in 1893 by the art historian Wilhelm von Bode (1845 - 1929), who was related to him; owned by the family at Langenstein Castle until 1945; later in various museum collections in the former GDR, including in Berlin, Dessau and Berlin.
