French ivory carver of the Baroque period (active in the early 18th century) Crucifix Wood and ivory, worked in full relief. Very finely carved depiction of the crucified Christ in the four-nail type as "christo vivo", arms stretched upwards. The bearded head with a pained expression is also tilted upwards towards the right shoulder. Probably modelled on the large ivory Christ in Notre Dame Cathedral in Paris, created by Jean Noël in 1651/1715, gilded frame. Finger left hand rest.; frame 40.5 cm x 32 cm. Body h. 20.5 cm. CITES certificate available. Provenance: Dissolution of an important German private collection - part II. French sculptor active in the beginning of the 18th century. Carved ivory Corpus Christi. Gilded frame. CITES included.
