French Rococo painter (active 2nd half of the 18th century) Pair of paintings with bathing Venus and dancing Bacchante Counterparts. Scenic, finely painted, sensual depictions in Arcadian, tree-lined landscapes: Venus accompanied by two putti, drying herself with a cloth and giving a pearl necklace to a putto on her right; the maenad also as a nude figure, in a lively dance pose, holding a tambourine in her raised left hand, at her side two Bacchus boys with cymbals and a wine goblet. Oil on canvas; old labels with numbers in each of the lower corners. 32.5 cm x 25 cm. Gilt Empire and Classicist frames. French painter active second half 18th century. A pair of paintings depicting a bathing Venus and a dancing bacchante. Each with old labels.
