Frederick Augustus II, King of Saxony
Hand drawings and writings by the King of His Majesty Fried. Aug. of Saxony / were in the possession of the director of the local engraving collection H. Frenzel to whom the letters are also addressed (inscribed cover). With 2 letters from Friedrich August II, 3 further letters from other members of the royal family and 2 album leaves with 2 gouaches.
Contains: Honoured letter with sign. Letter with inscription from Friedrich August II (still as Prince) to his cousin and future wife Archduchess Maria Karoline of Austria (1801-1832) shortly before their wedding. Dresden, 19 Sep. 1819. 1 p. on 1 double sheet with watermark - "Les bontés et les consentement de la Majesté l'Empereur m'ont autorisé d'offrir à Votre Altesse Impériale mon coeur et ma main ..." - Own. Letter from Friedrich August II with signature "Roy" with auction orders and instructions (for Johann Gottfried Abraham Frenzel (1782-1855)). 2 pp. on 2 sheets, 1 of which with a gilt, drawn coat of arms of the Saxon royal house. Royal house. - 2 gouaches each with 1 p. hs. Text mounted in decorative paper. Each approx. 15 x 9.5 cm (18 x 11 cm). - Depicting a royal society with a view in the background (the text in rhyme with wishes for a happy journey) and an impending murder scene with matching verses (these signed "Fritz"). - 3 letters to the chambermaid Elisabeth Coudray in Dresden: 2 signed by Maria Josepha of Saxony (1803-1829). Circa 1825. 2 pp. on 2 double sheets with envelope. - "... de Votre nomination pour femme de chambre de ma future Belle-Mère ..." - This refers to Princess Maria Luisa Carlotta (1802-1857), 43 years his junior, whom Maximilian of Saxony (1759-1838) married 21 years after the death of his first wife in 1825 at the age of 66. - 1 autograph with signature "A." from Amalie Auguste of Bavaria, Queen of Saxony from 1854, with request for a "Mantilla for Sidonie" (1834-1862).
