Lot no. 1915
Fritz Martinz. (1924 Bruck an der Mur - 2002 Vienna) "Female nude artificial light". Original title Expressive depiction of a standing female nude in a lascivious pose with arms raised above her head, whose provocative physicality is overwhelmed by its larger-than-life size. Martinz studied at the Vienna Academy under Albert Paris Gütersloh from 1947 to 1950, became a member of the Vienna Secession in 1949 and took part in the Venice Biennale in 1953. Together with Alfred Hrdlicka, Martinz belonged to the group of Austrian artists of the post-war period who depicted the flesh of the human body, especially in female nudes, in an unembellished and uncompromisingly realistic manner. In the "Figur" catalogue for an exhibition at the Zentralsparkasse in Vienna in 1969, Karl Diemer wrote at the time: "He models heavy, plump bodies with paint (...) It is as if Martinz has taken it upon himself to accumulate all the neglected, denigrated, cornered physicality of modernity in his paintings (...) All our enclosed, unliberated, unresolved physical existence." Oil on canvas; R,. u,. signed,. u,. dat. VIII-IX 1962, verso titled "Weibl. Akt Kunstlicht" and dated again; 250 cm x 82 cm. Frame. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated 1964. Titled on the reverse.
