FROGER (François). Rare first edition of the first account of a voyage to the Straits of Magellan undertaken by Frenchmen.
It is decorated with a title-frontispiece and 28 engraved plates and maps, often folding, including two panoramic views of São Sebastião and Salvador.
François Froger, a French engineer and hydrographer who was barely nineteen at the time of his departure, recounts his three-year voyage aboard the Faucon Anglais, visiting successively Cape Verde, Gambia, Rio de Janeiro, the Straits of Magellan, Salvador de Bahia, Cayenne, Saint Lucia, Saint Vincent, Martinique and Guadeloupe.
Copy faded, head cover and one corner damaged, scattered foxing and spotting, a few plates loose.
