Early vinegar merchant from the "Cris de Paris" series by Meissen
A crier standing on a rocaille-relief base, pushing a wheelbarrow with a wine vinegar barrel in front of him. Polychrome painting with gold decoration. Designed by Johann Joachim Kaendler and Peter Reinicke, after 1753, after a model by Christophe Huet. Minimal rest; crossed swords mark. H. 14 cm.
The figures of the "Cris de Paris" mostly show Parisian street vendors, but also courtly types in characteristic poses at their activities with detailed depictions of clothing, goods and objects of the 18th century; they are mainly modelled after the drawings by Christophe Huet from 1753.
