Furttenbach's art chamber Inventory of many usable and always worthy military, civil, naval, and similar architectural models, and demolitions, as well as other wolf- and man-made objects/ which can be found in the holy imperial city of Ulm/ and especially in Mr Joseph Furttenbach's council/ and bailiff's/ c. Rüst: und KunstCammer/ in natura zufindend sein/ (...). With 8 engraved and partly folded plates. Plates. Augsburg, Johann Schultes, 1660. 25 unpag. pp. 8°. Central paperback (spine missing, book block detached from binding, rubbed). {Very rare, no copy traceable for us in international trade}. VD17 23: 652691U. - Not in Oechslin. - {Rare, only 4 copies in KVK and OCLC} (Hannover, Wolfenbüttel, Braunschweig and Harvard). - Rare work on Furttenbach's Kunstkammer. The plates, engraved after the wooden models exhibited in Furttenbach's Kunstkammer, show, among other things, Baroque-style grottos, theatre backdrops, the harbour of Genoa, Noah's Ark and an apparently mechanical model of the Muses of Art and Science, which also serves as the frontispiece to Furttenbach's Mechanical Drawer. Joseph Furttenbach the Elder (1591 - 1667) was a German architect, mathematician and engineer who travelled in Italy (particularly Milan, Genoa and Florence) from 1607/08 to 1620. During his travels, he wrote detailed reports on buildings that interested him, as well as on festivals, processions and dramatic performances. Furttenbach's Cabinet of Curiosities was one of the most famous in Germany. - Layers partly loose, only a little foxing (mainly in margins). Overall in good condition, the plates burnished. {Very rare, no copy traceable for us in international trade}. {With 8 engraved a. partly folded plates}. Cont. cardboard binding (spine missing, binding loosened, rubbed). - {Rare, only 4 copies in KVK and OCLC} (Hanover, Wolfenbüttel, Brunswick and Harvard). - Rare work on Furttenbach's Kunstkammer.
