H. von Waldegg (active around 1900) Portrait of Frederick III, King of Prussia and second German Emperor in 1888 Representative, life-size, half-length, expressively characterising, posthumous portrait of Frederick III (1831 - 1888) in uniform with order sashes and numerous orders, including the breast star of the Order of the Black Eagle and the order "Pour le Merité", before a neutral, brown background, the head almost en face. Oil on canvas; signed a. r. a. dat. 1905. 100.5 cm x 80 cm. Open-worked original stippled frame, crowned by the heraldic imperial crown of the Prussian-German emperor in modified form from 1889 (made of bronze). The sitter from the House of Hohenzollern was the son of Emperor Wilhelm I. During the German War of 1866 and the Franco-Prussian War of 1870/71, the Crown Prince acted as Prussian commander; in the so-called Three Emperors' Year of 1888, he reigned for 99 days as German Emperor and King of Prussia. Provenance: Interior from the Kluvensiek manor house. Oil on canvas. Signed and dated 1905. Original splendid gilt frame with Imperial bronze crown.
