Gabrielle MACKIEWICZ (1928-2019), Service set in blue terracotta with white geometric decoration comprising a covered jug H: 21 cm, two footed bowls H: 17 cm, a footed vase H: 18 cm A rectangular covered stoneware box with polychrome enamels and geometric decoration, signed, H: 9 cm, L: 22.5 cm, W: 13.2 cm, is included. Born in Lille in 1928, Gabrielle Mackiewicz (née Lomprez) spent three years (1956-1959) studying modelling, drawing and live models at the Ecole des Arts Décoratifs in Grenoble. She studied with Gilbert Portanier and Roger Capron in Vallauris. She then set up her own ceramics studio to sell her work in Seyssins, near Grenoble, followed by her Art et Feu boutique in 1968. Between 1963 and 1967, she exhibited at a number of trade fairs, receiving an honorary diploma from the Ministry of Industry in the Arts and Crafts category at La Cordée in 1963. She has developed her own artistic style, which reveals her taste for both free-form and more figurative models. Her use of colour and her finesse of execution make her a ceramist of the highest calibre, whose rare pieces make her an exceptional producer. Her shop closed in 1992 and Gabrielle continued to express herself through her art, particularly painting.
