GAGARIN EVGENY (1905-1948) Zvezda v nochi: Rasskazy. [The Star in the Night: Stories]. Munich: Chrysostom, 1947. 79, [1] p. ; 20x16 cm. In the publisher's illustrated cover by the artist V. Drozhevskaya. Very well preserved. Slight scuffing to cover. Evgeny Andreevich Gagarin, Russian émigré writer. He lived in Germany and enrolled in the philosophy department of the University of Louvain (Belgium), where he studied art history. Due to financial difficulties, he abandoned his studies, graduated from the Forestry Academy in Eberswalde and found a job as a forester in Berlin. He worked with a number of renowned Russian émigré writers (Bunin, Zaitsev, Shmelev). He published in Russian and German, often dealing with the conflict between the old and new Russia, Soviet repression and collectivisation. He died after being hit by a lorry.
