GALLO-ROMAN BRONZE BEAR STATUETTE OF THE GODDESS ARTIO - EXTREMELY RARE. Ca. 100 BC - AD 100. A bronze statue of a bear, cast using the lost-wax process, depicted in stride on a rectangular plinth. Careful attention has been paid to her coat, which is composed of thick, shaggy tufts of hair that envelop her slender form. Capped by a pair of rounded ears, her expressive visage features annular eyes, a protruding snout, and a partially opened mouth. Size: 50mm x 40mm; Weight: 140g. Provenance: London collection; Ex. Mayfair collection, acquired from an Ancient Art gallery; formerly acquired on the London art market pre-2000. This item has been cleared against the Art Loss Register database and comes with a confirmation letter.
