ORIGINAL EDITION with 8 figures on 2 folding plates. Galvani's preparations of frogs included the spinal cord, crural nerves and lower limbs dissected as a single block.
"Using these preparations, he first applied the conductor of a static electric machine directly to the spinal cord... and observed the convulsive contractions of the muscles of the lower limbs". (DSB) His work led to the discovery of electric current (Wellcome III, p. 86).
