In-18, black box, mosaic decoration composed of diagonal lines of white morocco strips, initials in the centre of the upper cover (G mosaic in red, W stamped in gold and silver), ornate smooth spine, red box lining, black suedette and green-silver paper double endpaper, silvered edges, cover and spine, folder and slipcase (Rose Adler 1949). Illustrated with 35 compositions by Sylvain Sauvage. One of the 40 first editions on Arches vellum paper (no. 13), the only ones to contain - as this one does - a suite of black engravings, and an original drawing - here a landscape in Indian ink - signed in pencil by the illustrator. Magnificent binding signed by Rose Adler and dated 1949.
