166 pp. Small rare volume. "The destruction of this biting pamphlet was ordered by a ruling of the Royal Court of Paris, dated 1 Nov. 1826. It was very exactly suppressed, so copies are very rare" Drujon. Ouvrages condamnés p. 53 for the Paris edition, Belin, 1826. "This little volume, full of slander and no doubt also calumny, was seized, condemned and carefully destroyed" Quérard. Supercheries II, 897. In this gallery of ladies, we find Mad. de Barante, with a laudatory note: "She is the granddaughter of the famous Countess d'Houdetot, whose praise is to be found in the strong attachment that J. J. Rousseau had for her (...) In 1809, Napoleon signed her marriage contract with M. de Barante, then Prefect of the Loire-Inférieure and now one of our most elegant writers and our most patriotic peers. She is a charming woman, extremely mild-mannered, witty and well-educated, religious without grimaces and philhellenic without ostentation.
