GARDEL (Maximilien). L'Avènement de Titus à l'Empire, ballet allégorique au sujet du couronnement du roi. Paris, Musier fils, 1775. Rare first edition of this ballet libretto evoking the coronation of Louis XVI, crowned in Reims on 11 June 1775. Maximilien Gardel (1741-1787), master dancer at Marie-Antoinette's balls, dedicated this work to the queen. Printed on strong paper, slightly bluish. A superb copy in morocco with the arms of Madame Élisabeth (1764-1794), sister of Louis XVI, then aged eleven. It remained unknown to Quentin-Bauchart. This precious volume was in the libraries of Baron Lucien Double (Cabinet d'un curieux, n°45, and cat. 1897, n°53) and Robert Hoe (1911, n°1422). Minor restorations to the binding.
