GARIDEL (Pierre-Joseph). Histoire des plantes qui naissent aux environs d'Aix, et dans plusieurs autres endroits de la Provence. Aix, Joseph David, 1715. In-folio, marbled basane, spine decorated, red edges (Binding of the period). First edition of the most important treatise on Provençal botany and one of the finest regional floras in France.
A doctor and botanist in Aix, Garidel (1658-1737) used this major work to study the plants of the region with remarkable precision, describing several species for the first time.
Magnificently illustrated with 100 botanical plates engraved with etching and burin by the Aix artist Honoré Blanc, as well as an allegorical frontispiece after André Bouisson and a headband bearing the arms of the Duc d'Orléans.

Internally a very fresh copy. The Latin elegy on p. vi is accompanied by a handwritten French translation. The six "O" plates have been bound at the end of the volume. Corners worn, spotting not severe and minor worm damage to boards.
