GARNETT (Bertha Mary). Sketches in Switzerland. S.l., the author, 1884 - 1885. Large oblong in-4°, half morocco binding, 4 ribbed spine with gilt title "Album", gilt edges (Léon Bonvoisin). Album of 77 original watercolours painted during a trip to Switzerland (Lake Geneva, Valais, Bernese Alps, Chamonix). These watercolours, painted on location and covering the different seasons, are captioned, dated, signed and mounted singly, in pairs or exceptionally four on cardboard mounted on tabs. At the head of the album is a receipt from an exhibition where one of the watercolours was sold. Bertha Mary Garnett was an English painter, influenced by Turner; she is best known for her painting on canvas "A Corner of The Turner Room in the National Gallery", dated 1883 and kept at the National Gallery in London. A charming set of finely executed watercolours.
