GARNIER (Joseph-Blaise).gnomonique mise à la portée de tout le monde, ou méthode simple et aisée Pour tracer des Cadrans Solaires.Marseille: Jean Mossy, 1773. - In-8, 195 x 121 : x pp, (1 f.), 460 pp, 5 plates. First edition of this treatise by Joseph-Blaise Garnier, published simultaneously in Paris by Vincent and in Marseille by Jean Mossy. In it, the author proposes a simplified method for drawing sundials, making accessible a knowledge hitherto reserved for specialists. The work stands out for its practical approach, including pre-calculated tables covering all the declinations and latitudes of the Kingdom of France, an alphabetical table of cities, and clear instructions for using the necessary instruments. Garnier is not content with theory; he offers an operational guide, enabling even the uninitiated to create sundials with precision. The edition is illustrated with 5 fold-out plates. This is the copy of Jean Pierre Thomas Duvignau (1738-1809), the King's Ordinary Engineer from 1758, then Brigadier General in the Army of the Pyrenees in 1793. It bears his handwritten bookplate on the title: "Ex libris Du Vignau Ingénieur ordinaire du Roy de 1758". A good copy in contemporary binding. Spine slightly faded, rare traces of rubbing. Provenance: Jean Pierre Thomas Duvignau, with handwritten bookplate. - Blue coat of arms stamp on title.
