GAULE - CELTIC Abrincatui. Quarter statere with luniform profile and ND lyre (1st century BC). Front. Profile on the right in the shape of a half-moon, whose eye is represented by a hollow oval. Rv. Androcephalus right, a lyre flanked by two stars radiating below and aurige above summary to a shaggy head with central eye on a staff. DT.2271 v. - LT.J.10; Billon - 1.34 g - 15 mm - 3 h With a label in pen. This quarter statere came from the Stroehlin collection (1910 sale), then from the Bernard Roth collection (1912) who illustrated it in the British Numismatic Journal, vol.IX, 1912, pl.III, n° 51, then from the G. G. collection (bought 1200 francs in 1974). Beautifully struck, with welcome relief and good centring. Nice grey patina. Superb.
