Lot no. 115
GAULE - CELTIC Armorica / Coriosolites. Boar statère, Class III "with epsilon nose", Class II ND hybrid (end of the first half of the 1st century BC and Gallic War). Head to right, hair composed of three large rolls of parallel locks, with small hooked curls on the outside; the nose in epsilon and a volute starting from the mouth formed by a point. Rv. Non androcephalic horse right, driven by an avian aurige; a volute starts from the base of the mane; a boar right under the horse with a ringlet pointed between the legs; a vexillum in front of the horse. Rennes 842, 847 - DT.2339 / 2340 v. ; Billon - 5.93 g - 21 mm - 1 h Bust in high relief, very clear, especially the characteristic nose. The reverse is also very detailed, with the vexillum visible for example. Nice grey patina. A superb piece. If this obverse is class III, the reverse is class II with a horse with a sort of beak. The few comparable hybrids in the Musée de Rennes (nos. 842 and 847) are not distinguished in the catalogue. The treatment of the charioteer may be quite different from one coin to another, but the construction of the horse is the same; this is the distinctive mark of these hybrids.
