DT.2146 v. - Trésor des Sablons unknown 103 [D6-R8] ; Gold - 7.52 g - 20.5 mm - 3 h From a sale at Burgan 34, 25 June 1993, No. 166, among examples from outside sources of the Trésor des Sablons (Le Mans) [plate 8 unknown 103]. Beautifully struck, on a wide blank, barely broken at 7 o'clock (2 o'clock on the reverse). With slight wear on the reliefs and lightly cleaned fields. Slight patina. Superb. The set attributed to the Cenomans is interesting, the first issues would have appeared in the first half of the 2nd century BC and would have continued without notable typological variations, until the Gallic War. The presence of three small globules under the vexillum is a notable variation: the style of our example is close to DT. 2146. The Sablons treasure from which this example comes was discovered in the 1990s on the banks of the river Huisne in Le Mans. The half returned to the inventors was sold at auction on 27 March 2001 and the other half is on display at the Le Mans museum.
