GAULE - CELTIC Bituriges Cubes. CALIAGIID bronze with eagle and ND esse (mid 1st century BC, Gallic War). Female head (?) left, hair in long, fine locks, neck adorned with torque. Rv. Eagle front, wings outstretched, with an upside-down wingspring under its right wing and four pointed rings in the field; legend CALIAGIID below. LT (cf. 8000 with eaglet) - DT (cf. 2588 with eaglet); Bronze - 2.78 g - 16 mm - 6 h From a purchase at Richelieu Numismatique on 4 November 1994, with its label. A very rare variant with an esse seen in mirror image on the reverse, instead of the usual eaglet! The patina is dark green, shiny. Very nice.
