Lot no. 140
GAULE - CELTIC Bituriges Cubes. Drachma, wolf and horse type, class II var. 1 ND (late 2nd - early 1st century BC). Head to left, hair composed of a row of Aquitanian locks framing the face and the rest in a sort of chignon behind, with pearl necklace. Rv. Horse right, a wolf sitting on the rump and a three-lobed scroll under the horse. DT.3363 - Danicourt 143; Silver - 3.42 g - 15.5 mm - 9 h The slightly off-centre strike shows the entire back of the reverse. Barely cleaned with slight flats on the high reliefs. Superb. This is an interesting set with multiple combinations of rights and reverses possible. The head is oriented to the right (class I) as to the left (class II) and each exists with or without the cross on the cheek. The reverses are more homogeneous, all to the right, but it is possible to distinguish a variant according to the direction of the triskel: dextrogyrous (which turns to the right) or senestrogyrous (which turns to the left).
