Lot no. 141
GAULE - CELTIC Bituriges Cubes. Drachma, wolf and horse type, class II var. 2 with ornamented cheek ND (late 2nd - early 1st century BC). Head to left, hair composed of a row of Aquitanian locks framing the face and the rest in a sort of bun behind, pearl necklace around the cheek and cheek decorated with a four-lobed cross. Rv. Horse right, a wolf sitting on the rump and a three-lobed scroll below the horse. DT.3364 - Danicourt 142 ; Silver - 3,06 g - 14,5 mm - 2 h With a label from an undetermined former collection. The blank is a little short but the whole is very clear, in particular the finial and the pearl necklace on the right, as well as the almond-shaped eye. Beautiful grey patina. TTB to Superb. This is an interesting series with multiple combinations of rights and reverses possible. The head is oriented to the right (class I) as to the left (class II) and each exists with or without the cross on the cheek. The reverses are more homogeneous, all to the right, but it is possible to distinguish a variant according to the direction of the triskel: dextrogyrous (which turns to the right) or senestrogyrous (which turns to the left).
