GAULE - CELTIC Riedones. Statère de billon, class II, with bearded profile ND (1st century BC). Front. Bearded profile on the right, with straight nose. The hair is divided into three distinct elements: curls wrapped around the face; above, two parallel rows of leaves represented by two parallel dashes make up the crown; at the top, flaming crescent-shaped locks escape outwards. Rv. Androcephalous horse right, led by its stylised charioteer holding the reins; a gonfanon in front of the horse; under the horse a beaded wheel with eight spokes. LT.6813 - DT.2319 = this specimen; Billon - 6.28 g - 21.5 mm - 5 h This is the specimen shown in the Nouvel Atlas, plate XIII. On an oblong blank, slightly chipped. The right side is particularly fine with all the details of the headdress constructed with three elements. Nice grey patina. Superb.
