Lot no. 90
GAULLE Captain Charles de
Paris,, Berger-Levrault,, 1924...
La Discorde chez l'ennemi.
Gr. in-8 (24.2 x 15.5 cm), bradel, caramel basane, ribbed spine with gilt author and title, covers and spine preserved (period binding).
Very rare first edition of the first book by Charles de Gaulle, then a captain.
It was not printed on large paper.
A precious copy bearing this moving letter from General de Gaulle: "to my son Philippe, testimony of my deep affection and my confident hopes", dated 11 March 1924. Philippe de Gaulle (1921-2024), the first child of Yvonne and Charles de Gaulle, was just over two years old at the time, and neither he nor his father knew the fate that awaited them.
A fine copy despite a band of sunstain at the head of the first cover and very slight rubbing.
