GAULLE Charles de. 2 L. A. S. "C.G." and "Ton Père C.", 25 August and 29 September 1970, to his son Captain Philippe de GAULLE in Brest; 3 and 2 pages in-8 headed Le Général de Gaulle, envelope enclosed with the 2nd. 25 August. "My dear Philippe, Your letter, received this morning, tells us that you find yourself, with interest, plunged back into the obligations of your command. There is nothing really new here. Yves is working and keeping us company, which gives us great pleasure. Yesterday we went with him to the Vosges and Alsace (Gérardmer, la Schlucht, Colmar, Sélestat, Obernai, Sainte-Odile, Wangenbourg, Dabo). After lunch in Dabo, we went via Blamont to your battlefield, which I wanted to see. I saw Nonhigny and the terrain of your approach from Ancerviller and Halloville, then that of your attack on Montreux, then your march on Parux, finally your descent on Cirey-sur-Vezouze, all of it even more wooded than I had imagined. That's why I was able to cross-check the events in the account you gave me to read, which I urge you to continue for the other phases of your wartime existence"... 29th September. "My dear Philippe, What good news Yves phoned us last night! It's excellent that he has been accepted to the Sciences-Politiques. He is now well oriented and, at the same time, more self-assured. He's a boy of great value and great merit, just like his elder brother. As for the latter, if his internship in the United States can be useful, I must say that I fervently hope that the Americans do not annex him, particularly in their European affairs"...
