"Charles", Ingolstadt 8 and 22 April 1917, to his mother Jeanne de Gaulle; 1 page in-12 each in pencil on Postkarte with address on reverse (stamps and postmarks), Prisoner's cards on the effects of family estrangement. 15 April. "This is the second Easter of my captivity. I don't want to conceal from you that I feel an immense and inexpressible sadness. But that is of no general importance, is it? In any case, these days more and better than ever my heart is with yours"... 22nd April. "A card I received from M. A. [Marie-Agnès, his sister] tells me that our poor dear Marie-Lucie died on 16 March. Like you, I am deeply moved. M.A. herself is extremely saddened. You keep asking me for news. Once again, I will tell you that it is excellent. But I would like to be sure that you, my dear little Mum and Dad, are well despite this harsh winter and all your worries. I shall soon need a pair of boots to replace my elasticated ones, which are well worn, and a sheet of leather for any resealing"... LNC, I, p. 328 and 329. An L. A. S. to his brother Pierre de Gaulle, 15 April 1917 (on Postkarte), in which he evokes his deep thoughts for his family, encourages him to fulfil his desires and evokes the death of Marie-Lucie.
