GAULLE Charles de. 2 typescripts signed "Capitaine de Gaulle", La Formation militaire supérieure, [1926]; 7 fol. pages each. "Our higher military education recently celebrated fifty years of existence. Pride in the services rendered dominated this anniversary"... He concludes: "Thus, higher military training has begun a profound evolution before our very eyes. While tactical and historical studies, which have already proved their worth, now have their place, they also claim to embrace reasoned knowledge of the present day. Reform, no doubt, and not upheaval, for progress is only possible through continuity; but reform that is worthy and difficult. [...] But the military order, forcing itself to be bold, overcoming its doubts and overcoming objections, will be able to tailor the studies that prepare for Command to the demands of the new times. These studies, rejuvenated, growing strong roots in all national activity, will cover themselves with a flowering full of hope. It was Minerva, expert in the arts, learned in science, skilled in industry, who presided over the war". The typescript sent to the Revue Bleue bears a few tiny errors. corrections; it is signed in ink at the end "Capitaine de Gaulle". Another typescript is signed and annotated in pencil at the top: "Capitaine de Gaulle pour la Revue Bleue, politique et littéraire"; in the margin, General Pierre Hering has noted "Cum laude" and signed. General Pierre Hering (1874-1963) commanded the École supérieure de guerre. The illustrated plaque celebrating the fiftieth anniversary of the École Supérieure de Guerre, 8 May 1926 (2 copies) is enclosed.
