Mentioned in the Army Order. On 13th January 1921, the Minister of War cited the following in the Army Order: "Mr Gaulle, Charles, André, Joseph, Captain in the 124th Infantry Regiment, seconded to the French Military Mission in Poland: "Seconded to the General's Staff accredited to the Polish Army Group of the South, then the Centre, has rendered outstanding services as an officer in the 3rd Bureau. Has been particularly noted for the brilliant way in which he carried out, under very difficult conditions, several missions with the Armies during the offensive operations of August 1920. Demonstrating a very clear sense of the situation, sound judgement, exposing himself to contact with the enemy in order to obtain accurate information (operation against Boudienny's army from 30th July to 2nd August, capture of Hrubieszow on 13th and 14th August), he was the most valuable auxiliary for his commander and for his Polish comrades the example of an accomplished war officer". This citation does not include the award of the Croix de Guerre. The document is typed and certified as true by the Deputy Director. De Gaulle wrote this note: "Note: A decree of the Minister of War dated... 1921 prescribes that commendations in the Army Order obtained during operations in various theatres listed, including Poland, entitle the recipient to the Croix de Guerre des Théâtres Extérieurs d'opérations".
