Lot no. 354
GAULLE Charles de. Set of sheets annotated in pencil listing the General's "success" statistics. Curious set of 20 sheets (27 x 21 cm) of paper listing the General's success statistics at the end of his life. The papers are covered with crosses and circles in pencil, tightly inscribed on both sides. The circles are marked on top of the crosses, not in place of them. This is how we understand the notation: when a sheet is completed (which is the case for 18 of them), the General notes in ink the number of circles (the completed successes), then calculates the percentage in relation to the total number of successes achieved. This is generally around 30%. On one sheet, a series of 10 rounds in a row is circled in ink, accompanied by the words "10 !!!!!". This enthusiasm is understandable if you bear in mind that, most of the time, the best series only have 3 or 4 successes. An object as curious as it is aesthetic.
