GAULLE Charles de. L. A. (minute with erasures and corrections), 3 December 1952, to René Capitant; 1 1/2 pages in-8 headed Le Général de Gaulle. "My dear Capitant, Why take this tone with me? What are you getting at? Why alter your own possibilities for action when the goal to be reached, as regards the problem in question, is obviously known to you? As you must know, I am keen to reconcile what needs to be reconciled. In particular, I want the committee set up to push forward the crucial issue raised in your report to the Armed Forces to meet and come to a successful conclusion. But how can this be done if you yourself disappear or only appear in derogatory letters? The cause deserves to be handled differently, and you are better than that"... LNC, II, p. 1097. Attached is an autograph note from General de Gaulle, 15 December [1952] (1 p. in-8 on his letterhead): "to have me write a note to the Governor of the Banque de France who sent me a medal on the occasion of the 150th anniversary of the Bank". (Note in another hand, taped over).
