GAULLE Charles de. L. A. S. (draft), [early 1919], to the Minister of War; 1 fol. page with erasures and corrections. Draft of his application to join the Polish army. "Captain de Gaulle, of the 33rd Infantry Regiment" requests his "assignment to the Polish Army. Having been wounded in the battle of Douaumont on March 2, 1916, and having remained on the ground, I had the misfortune to fall into enemy hands after nineteen months of campaigning, 2 previous wounds and 2 commendations, including 1 in the army order for my conduct at Douaumont. I was appointed temporary captain on 10 February 1915 and permanent captain on 9 September 1915. I would like to express my ardent desire to campaign again as soon as possible. He adds that he has a "thorough knowledge of the German language", and would like to He added that he had a "thorough knowledge of the German language", and wanted to "leave with the first Polish units that might be destined for the expedition".
