GAULLE Charles de L. A. S. "Charles de Gaulle" to Henri Maillot, 21 February 1950; 2 p. in-12 on General de Gaulle's letterhead. "As you know, our Rally has begun a new stage of activity throughout the country, one that should lead it - probably as early as this year - to success in the general elections. Corsica can only be in the vanguard, and you too. Whatever your personal feelings towards our former companion Giacobbi, you are certainly aware of the extent of the error and the mistake he has made in publicly and loudly separating himself from us and from myself. So we have to go ahead without him. Equivocation is now our worst adversary. Please give my cousin my most respectful regards [...]". Paul Joseph Marie Giacobbi (1896-1951) was a French politician of Corsican origin. Mayor of Venaco, his home town, from 1922 to 1940, he took part in the liberation of Corsica alongside General de Gaulle and chaired the Corsican General Council from 1945 to 1951. Small, very light stain at foot of verso. Provenance : - Henri Maillot (1899-1987), cousin of General de Gaulle and great Corsican Resistance fighter - Then by descent
