GAULLE Charles de. L. A. S. "Ton Père", 13 February 1970, to his son Captain Philippe de GAULLE, in Brest; 2 pages in-8 headed Le Général de Gaulle, envelope enclosed. Writing of Mémoires d'espoir. "My dear Philippe, While you are exercising your command, with the responsibilities, satisfactions and worries that it entails and that I can measure from a distance, life at Colombey is calm and, for me, laborious. Over the last few days, we've had the company of Elisabeth and Anne, as well as Alain, who came for a weekend. We were also delighted to have Jean with us. He is now almost a "young man" and I feel that he is gradually revealing himself in a satisfactory way, particularly from the point of view of curiosity of mind and judgement. If, as I very much hope, you can come to La Boisserie next month, I will ask you to read the two chapters of my book devoted to foreign policy: "Europe" and "The World". I'm now working on the penultimate chapter (The End of the Algerian Affair)"... LNC, III, p. 1123. 2 autograph notes signed (on ff. in-8 on his letterhead) are enclosed: - concerning a letter from Maurice Clavel, [5 February 1970]: "don't reply to C. G." (1/4 p.); - 12 February 1970: "tell Mr. A. Conte that I have received his book Sans de Gaulle but I never give my assessment of works about which I am the subject. C. G. " (1 p.)
