As far as your action is concerned, so clear-sighted and so courageous, before and during the storm up to the great drama of mid-June 1940, you know that I have always approved of it, to the point of associating myself with it to the extent of my means. This means that, apart from a few details, I still agree with what you say. He thanks the General for his letter: "The work done together, for the public good, with a man who has since carved out such a place for himself in the history of France is a shining point in my career. [As for the armistice, history will tell whether, in the face of the hostility of the most important ministers in my cabinet, a reshuffle was not necessary to avoid resignations that would have morally torn apart invaded France". And he recalled that there had never been any question of an armistice between them...
