Lot no. 119
GAULLE Charles de
L.A.S., Metz, 24 September 1938, to Paul Reynaud; 2 pages in-4 at the printed head of the 507th tank regiment.
Support of Charles de Gaulle.
"My thoughts do not wander from your present action in the service of France. Events are showing in a terrible light just how right you were.
Coincidence... On Tuesday, a book of mine entitled La France et son armée (France and its Army) will be published by Plon, and I am sending you a copy today. It is a summary of a thousand years of the history of our militant, suffering and triumphant homeland. I hope, perhaps somewhat arrogantly, that you can find a few moments to read it.
My regiment is ready. As for me, I see the greatest events in the history of France coming without any surprise and I am sure that you are marked out to play a leading role in them. Let me tell you that in any case I shall be - unless I am dead - determined to serve you if you please."
Minor cracks, minor stains.
