Lot no. 71
GAULLE Charles de L.A.S., Paris, 10 May 1935, to Paul Reynaud; 2 1/2 pages in-8. About his work for Le Soldat, produced under the direction of Marshal Pétain. "I am enclosing a study that I once did under the personal direction of Marshal Pétain, on the history of French military institutions (Ancien Régime, Revolution, Empire, 1815 to 1871). Until now, this study had remained a matter between the Marshal and myself. If you would like to read it, I hope you will find a fairly complete philosophy of this serious question. Marshal Pétain's publication project, which was to be entitled Le Soldta, never saw the light of day and was the cause of the final rift between the two men. Charles de Gaulle used the material collected on this occasion to publish, under his own name, La France et son armée (Plon, 1938). Black borders on one page, slight trace of paperclip on one page. Bibliography: L. N. C., vol. 1, p. 777-778.
