Lot no. 83
GAULLE Charles de
L.A.S., Paris, 2 April 1936, to Paul Reynaud; 3 pages in-8 on the printed letterhead of the Presidency of the Conseil Supérieur de la Défense Nationale.
Regarding an article on the professional army.
"I would like to recommend that you read the article entitled "L'Armée de métier", by General X..., which appeared yesterday in the "Mercure de France". You are, of course, named in it.
I don't know who "General X" is. But his work is a faithful statement of what we dare not call the official 'doctrine' of the day.
I take you as witness to the military defeatism that shines through every line, to the paucity of thought and - what is more serious - of will revealed by these dreary indications".
Slight loss of paper (mouse?) at the top of one page.
