School booklet for Charles de Gaulle from third grade to elementary mathematics. Charles de Gaulle attended the École libre de Vaugirard. In the third year of secondary school, he obtained 4 accessits (in Latin version, French, German and Latin verse). In Year 10, he was graded "bon élève" (good student) and "très bon élève" (very good student) by his science teacher: "Very intelligent and very gifted". In rhetoric, in 1905, having failed to obtain an age exemption, he was assessed as: "Good student. Intelligent and hard-working" (literature), "Excellent pupil" (history), "Very good, intelligent pupil" (science); and in 1906, he won 1st prize in mathematics, a prize for excellence, a prize in Latin version, Latin theme, French, history-geography, a runner-up in Greek version, modern language and physics, with excellent comments from his teachers. In philosophy, he won 1st prize for the French essay, and second prize in history; he was considered a 'good student', with a few special comments: 'Successfully completed the Philosophy class in 1905-1906 (too young to sit the exam). This year, never stopped leading his class" (philosophy); "Serious and intelligent pupil" (mathematics); "Good pupil, very serious, worked a lot" (physics)... In elementary mathematics, he won 1st prize for French essay, second prize in history and a runner-up in physics; a good student, he was praised for being "very diligent and conscientious" (science) and "very hard-working" (physics). "first in his class" (philosophy).
