Lot no. 206
GAULLE Charles de. Autograph manuscript, [Presentation of Speeches and Messages, 1947]; 1 page in-4 Draft for the foreword to the edition of his Discourses et Messages 1940-1946 (Berger-Levrault, 1947). The manuscript is heavily crossed out and corrected. "We are publishing in this collection those speeches that General de Gaulle made between 18 June 1940 and 1 January 1946 in circumstances determined in advance and for which the exact text has been preserved, either in his own handwriting for his radio speeches, or recorded by official shorthand for his speeches at public meetings or to the Consultative and Constituent Assemblies. Not included in this collection are the many speeches (several hundred) improvised by General de Gaulle during the same period, either in France, in the overseas territories or abroad, in the most diverse circumstances, the texts of which have only been collected in an uncertain or incomplete manner, as well as some of his statements to the press and his incidental interventions during debates in the assemblies".
