Le Fil de l'épée, published in July 1932, comprises five chapters, preceded by a Foreword: De l'Action de guerre, Du Caractère, Du Prestige, De la Doctrine, La Politique et le soldat. The book brings together previously published studies, which were extensively revised for the volume, the manuscripts of which were described above (see nos. 95 and 100). * Autograph manuscript, heavily crossed-out and corrected draft of what appears to be a first version of De l'Action de guerre, very different from the final text (28 ff. fol.): "Surprise for the enemy, security for oneself. The principles governing the use of means are only as good as the way in which they are adapted.
