A valuable document showing the impact of Lieutenant-Colonel de Gaulle's new ideas, which were better understood in Germany than in France. "The book was published in Germany at the beginning of 1935. The translation, with a very interesting preface, was done under the pseudonym Gallicus. The purely technical chapters have been shortened, and all references to French military history have been removed. It is a collection of 96 pages, a far cry from the 211 pages of the original. [...] Vers l'Armée de métier, which had barely been published in France, was immediately spotted by the leaders of the Third Reich. Hitler had it read to him, and Philippe Barrés, during his trips to Germany in 1934, was flabbergasted to hear Ribbentrop or Huenhlein refer to the "best technician" of tanks in France or speak of the "great French colleague, a specialist in motorisation".
