Lot no. 293
[GAUTIER (Abbé J.J.). History of Alençon. Alençon, Poulet-Malassis, [1805]. In-8 red half calf, spine ribbed, gilt title (post. rel. mid 19th c.). A bibliographical curiosity: this work, perhaps published in 1805 (?), must have sold very slowly and left many unsold. So, in 1826, after the Malassis family printing works had been transferred to Place Bourbon, this title was printed, with the 1805 date but with the 1826 address, which is moreover implausible in terms of its Empire-sourced name. It should be noted that Malassis le jeune, the publisher-librarian, was the father of the publisher of Les Fleurs du Mal (bibliographical note by the former owner and expert on the flyleaf). Ex-libris JM. Label of the bookshop J. Lestringant in Rouen (Barbier II, 652; Frère II, 13.)
