First illustrated edition of this famous novel which lends itself so well to a profusion of images: it contains 60 wood-engraved figures by Gustave Doré in the first printing. The copy is complete with the front cover (addressed 13, rue de Grenelle, a condition not mentioned by the bibliographers) and its sixty issues with their covers in perfect condition, each containing a plate protected by a pink silk serpente. The covers are addressed to "28, quai de l'École". The collection is enriched by 2 portraits of Théophile Gautier, one caricature engraved on wood after Mailly, printed on Chine, the other engraved on metal by Cattelain after a photograph by Pierre Petit. An exceptional copy in perfect condition, as issued, with all covers, partly uncut. It comes from the collection of Lucien Tissot-Dupont, with ex-libris (absent from the catalogues).
