GAVARD (Charles). Historical Galleries of Versailles. Paris, Gavard, 1837-1846. 3 steel engravings, 14.8 x 23 cm, 19.5 x 17.5 cm and 12.9 x 23 cm, framed. The three engravings from the Galeries historiques de Versailles depict views of spectacular battles in the Aosta Valley: - Prise du Petit Saint-Bernard on 24 April 1794, drawn by Pingret and engraved by P. Brunellière. During this battle won by the French revolutionary armies, the valiant Valle d'Aosta captain Claude-Joseph Darbelley was killed. - The French army crossing the Albaredo gorge near Fort de Bard (21 May 1800), drawn by Mongin and engraved by Schroeder. - Bombardment and capture of Fort de Bard 1st June 1800, drawn by Gautier and engraved by Aubert. Fantastic view of the capture of the fort by night by Napoleon's armies (minor pitting in the margins). Peyrot I, 211/1, 211/6 and 211/8. Also included: - GEORGIN (François): Passage du Mont Saint-Bernard. Colour reproduction circa 1960, printed on Arches paper, of an Epinal image published by Jean-Charles Pellerin circa 1830. 48 x 64 cm (on view). Framed.
